The Raymond Mhlaba Municipality (RMM) would like to confirm the tragic death of Ward
Councillor Mpho Mahleza, who was fatally shot yesterday evening. The RMM Council,
along with its management and staff, extend their deepest sympathies to his family and
friends during this difficult time.
Councillor Mahleza had been an integral part of the Raymond Mhlaba Council since 2020,
representing Ward 23 in Bedford.
"The loss of Councillor Mahleza is a significant blow to our community, as he was a diligent
public servant committed to the welfare of Bedford and the broader Raymond Mhlaba area.
His dedication to improving the lives of those he represented was consistently demonstrated
in council engagements, where he advocated passionately for his constituents," remarked
RMM Speaker, Councillor Thozama Ngaye.
"He played a pivotal role in promoting a culture of service excellence within the Raymond
Mhlaba Municipality. We unequivocally denounce this heinous act of violence and place our
trust in the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the justice system to address this
matter appropriately," added Speaker Ngaye.
The Raymond Mhlaba Municipality will provide additional information regarding the
Institutional Memorial Service and Funeral Services in due course.
